This exhibition explores Edvard Munch’s contribution to the history of modern art as a precursor to Expressionism and as part of the group of Post-Impressionists together with Paul Cézanne, Paul Gauguin and Vincent van Gogh, who had a decisive influence on later artistic movements.
The exhibition brings together a wide catalog of emotional archetypes and existential obsessions of contemporary man, such as melancholy, love, desire and jealousy, illness or death.
Exhibition curated by Paloma Alarcó, Head of Conservation of Modern Painting at the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza, and Jon-Ove Steihaug, Director of Collections and Exhibitions of the Munch Museet.
