Constantin Brancusi, one of the most important artists of the twentieth century, worked with classical materials such as wood, stone, and metal to create a body of work that revolutionized sculptural tradition.
With nearly 200 pieces on loan from institutions around the world, Brancusi. L’art ne fait que commencer is one of the most comprehensive exhibitions ever devoted to the prolific sculptor. The presentation also includes a reconstruction of the artist’s studio, the Atelier Brancusi, which he bequeathed to the French state before his death in 1957, as well as a selection of photographs—many of which document his own work.
Curated by Ariane Coulondre, curator in the Department of Modern Collections at the Musée national d’art moderne, Brancusi is presented at the Centre Pompidou.
