1924. Other Surrealisms marks the 100th anniversary of the publication of André Breton’s “First Manifesto of Surrealism.” Organized with the collaboration of the Centre Pompidou, this exhibition explores the reception of Surrealism in Spain and sheds light upon figures traditionally excluded from the movement’s narrative, including lesser known Spanish and Latin American artists, as well as women artists. Presented at the Fundación MAPFRE in Madrid, the exhibition is curated by the academic Estrella de Diego and is accompanied by an expansive catalogue featuring texts by Diego, art historian Diana Wechsler, curator Isidro Hernández Gutiérrez and filmmaker Isabel Coixet.
