This volume analyzes the place of pastel technique compared to painting, as well as the reasons that led the greatest figures of the pastel renaissance in the first modernity of the 19th and 20th centuries to resort to this medium in their landscapes and portraits, elevating this media until it became a discipline with its own weight.
Exhibition curated by Philippe Saunier, Head of the Pastel Collection at the Musée d’Orsay, Paris.
