The oeuvre of the African-American artist Carrie Mae Weems spans four decades of multidisciplinary work, with photography being the key medium for conveying her discourse, which is social in nature. Weems questions traditional ideas about gender, race or class, delving into universal themes such as identity, relationships, family, or the connection between different generations.
Exhibition curated by Elvira Dyangani Ose, Artistic Director of MACBA, Barcelona, and Iris Dressler, Director of the Württembergischer Kunstverein, Stuttgart.
