African-American artist Carrie Mae Weems is best known for her photographic work, but the importance of the written word is fundamental to understanding her artistic discourse, which focuses on social activism, cultural identity, power structures, desire and social justice. This catalogue is the first dedicated to Weems’ texts and includes a selection of interviews and images of photographs by the artist.
The exhibition is curated by the Spaniard Raúl Muñoz de la Vega and Florence Ostende.
